AGMHI wins The British Academy Award for Evidence-Informed Policy Making
22 May 2025
Earlier this month, the AGMHI was selected to receive The British Academy's Evidence-Informed Policy Making Grant.
The awarded project, titled “A Critical Analysis of Inclusive Evidence-Informed Mental Health Policymaking in Africa,” will focus on mapping and analyzing the characteristics of national mental health policies in five African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, and South Africa. Using a mixed methods approach, our team will engage with mental health policymakers, researchers, and People With Lived Experience (PWLE) to develop context-specific strategies to better integrate evidence into mental health policy formulation and implementation.
This recognition underscores the power of collaborative research and advocacy in strengthening mental health systems across the continent.
A special thank you to members of the AGMHI Advocacy & Policy Working Group whose incredible dedication and teamwork under tight time constraints made this grant proposal a success. This achievement is a milestone for all of us in the AGMHI community, and we are proud to continue to champion mental health equity, evidence-driven action, and the inclusion of lived experience in policymaking.
